Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

I really hope people comment for this one, because I love you all and I want to talk about it! Feel free to ask for either or both memes, I can take it.

1. celadon
Celadon is one of my favorite shades of green, which is my favorite color-wheel color. It takes its name from this exquisitely beautiful Chinese pottery that learned about when I was having my passionate love affair with Chinese culture. I love both the color and the art, and it represents a lot of what I love about ancient cultures.
2. foil wrappers
My cat loves to play with tiny balled-up foil wrappers. It's gotten to the point where, if I so much as crinkle a wrapped piece of chocolate, he's immediately waiting at my feet for his toy. It's absolutely adorable and I love his kittenish ways.
3. genetic engineering
I've read books on this, and written multiple essays, and it's something fascinating that always stimulates my interest. How far could we go with this? Preventing congenital and hereditary diseases, strengthening resistance to common illnesses and injuries- or further. Enhancing intelligence, strength, health, and appearance. Lengthening lifespan. Further yet, adapting humans for the incredible lifespans, mental stability, fitness, and unique traits required to travel and live on other worlds. People who are capable of surviving in the dryest desert, the most ice-bound tundra, half-amphibious mermaid-people.
I realize that we'll probably invest more effort into solutions rather than preventions, and eventually into terraforming rather than self-adaptation, but it almost seems more fair to do it the other way around. Haven't we caused enough trouble changing external things to fit our needs?
4. paint under my nails
Probably my favorite part of the painting class I took. A lot like having lead- or ink-smudged fingers, sore muscles from exercise, a hoarse throat from concert-screaming, or even guitar calluses. Something I can show off, and take perverse pride in, and something that makes me feel maybe a little like a legitimate artist even though I am one hundred percent not.
5. physics is my girlfriend
Physics is totally my girlfriend. Sometimes she's really easy, and easy to get along with, and I love her for it. Sometimes she's a complete bitch and shuts me out and I can't understand a thing she's saying, but no matter how frustrated I get, I love the challenge. And I say dweeby coupley things like "Just knowing Physics gives me this warm glow of happiness and satisfaction."
6. sharing initials
One of my random passtimes is trying to match the initials of people I know with quasi-famous people. I, for example, have the same initials as Edgar Allen Poe. It takes a brave and/or crazy person to be my friend, truefacts.
7. stargate (I've never seen any Stargates! Um, I don't really know what it is.)
Stargate is/was a TV show! Stargate: SG1, specifically, since they made a Stargate: Atlantis spinoff recently. Stargate was my very first fandom, back when I was all wee and cute, and I still know people from those ancient days. The show recently came to an end after something like ten seasons, which is just insane. I will always be fond of it.

Date: 2007-09-30 07:41 pm (UTC)I love that I have known you for nearly four years now, and that I kind of got to see how you've grown (which sounds like a silly thing to say, since I am in fact not your mom, but still).
I love hearing your descriptions of college and weird-ass pranks and things. It makes it into something less mysterious-frightening and more exciting. And you have the best sense of humor about it, honestly, I envy your cool.

Date: 2007-09-30 07:50 pm (UTC)I just want you to TALK TO ME ABOUT KILTS. It will make my day better! Also, I know a tiny bit about Spring Awakening, but I want to know more about the show with That Lucky Bastard in it.
I love the fact that you have literally boundless enthusiasm. You never seem to run out of interest or excitement. You've seen more musicals than I've even heard of, and you can talk intelligently about all of them. You've been to so many interesting places and done so many interesting things, and yet you are the least snobby person I've ever met, perfectly willing to share all that joy with other people. It's absolutely amazing, and I both respect and admire you very deeply for it.

Date: 2007-09-30 08:12 pm (UTC)I hope you don't mind me saying that your interests are absolutely fascinating. Your mindset is very different from mine in an interesting way, and so I chose interests that were more "I want to know why this is important to you," than "I want to know what on earth this means!"
I love you because you are different. I love that you're willing to talk about things that mean a lot to you, which takes a lot of strength. I love your makeup and your tattoos and your creativity and your perseverance. I love that, through the miraculous powers of internet and fandom, my nerdy Quiz Bowl-playing physics-loving self gets to be friends with someone as cool as you.

Date: 2007-09-30 11:25 pm (UTC)Two of those things are things I love beyond all reason. Can you guess which? *grins*
I love you for being the kind of person I wish every fandom everywhere was entirely populated with; cheerful, friendly, creative, open to new things. I love your icon and the obvious crazy sexual tension going on in it. I love that you got fired from an admittedly shitty job and made it a positive thing, which had to be harder than it looks. I love your username. I love that I don't really know you too well right now, so I get to look forward to getting to know you, and it will both a privilege and an pleasure to do so.

Date: 2007-10-01 10:48 pm (UTC)You are probably the most genuinely sincere person I've ever met. You say exactly what you think, and are so nice that it's almost overwhelming, like bright sunlight. Talking to you is... I get the impression of someone who's very wise, in a way, who's been through a lot and decided to not let it get her down. Even when you seem sad, there's always a note of hope. You always know the right thing to say to make people feel incredible about themselves, and I would give a lot to be able to return the favor.

Date: 2007-10-02 01:50 am (UTC)Man, I don't know, I think some pretty mean things some of the time, you really have no idea. But I try not to act on them, so I suppose that's something.
*hugs* Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thanks.
