Have some more random peek-atures! Again, I am behind the camera on all of these. Tomorrow I'll upload the ones from Millenium Park, where the first three came from.

thewingedword: (boom boom)
It seems I may have gotten myself into a new fandom, or rather an associated set of fandoms. The signs are there, complete with compulsive reading of fic and viewing of youtube clips, the picking up of random obscure trivia, and the strange dreams that contain inexplicable in-jokes.

Um. Okay? Hello, bandom.

I still ♥ you, Supernatural, but you've been shuffled into the somewhat corner-ier part of my mind along with House and SGA and Stargate and Phantom &c. It happens to the best shows, never fear. I will still read your fic, I'm just not going to really devote my full effort to it.

In other news, I was up 'til late-o'-bloody-clock last night writing practice AP essays that it turned out we only had to do outlines or "jots" for. And then, when I tried to get to sleep, I started itching horribly and had to tuck my hands under my pillow to stop from flaying any more red lines across my skin. Also had to distract myself with bizarre but pleasurable fic bunnies that I would NEVER EVER write except in that half-asleep, everything-is-a-great-idea state.

Here's three pics for ya. Brownie points to anyone who can guess where in Chicago I took them! Sorry if they're huge, for once I'm hoping Photobucket shrank them a bit. Used the Color Accent feature on my camera to pick up that gorgeous blue of the sky, it was such a lovely day, and bleach out the buildings somewhat for contrast.

Also got a 33 on my ACT, by the way. XD

Sculptures

I made both of these last year, actually.

This sculpture was carved out of a chunk of plaster the exact size and shape of a Supersized McDonalds cup. I know this, because that's what my teacher used for the mold. Basic carving methods, water to soften and chisels to shape, a filler for bubbles and a final sanding, metallic paint for the finish. Mine admittedly doesn't deviate much from the original shape, but I wanted to do more surface ornamentation, so I stuck with a basic form. Art teacher called it a schmoo, and in fact still calls me Schmoo, so that I've come to answer to it quite as familiarly as my own name.

This sculpture I made with basic, normal clay-coil techniques. The raised eyebrow and nose of the upper face are basically my favorite things ever. The finish is a dark red-brown wax, rubbed in and rubbed off, with several layers of sand glued to the inner surfaces.

ETA: I hate dealing with timestamps. Argh.

Paintings

thewingedword: (a little busy now)

This is the first painting I did, based on a tiny 20x24 mm piece of magazine I cut out; I had to approximate a lot of the shapes and colors when I expanded it. For some reason the pictures came out horribly untrue to color; that strange light teal inside the orange is actually a medium sky-blue brushed with darker blue for texture.

Warning: Really big pictures.

This painting is based off a photograph of a privately owned island in Canada called Blueberry Island, which we frequently crash while on vacation there. It's up in the Muskoka area. I used a piece of clear plastic with a grid on it and drew a grid on the canvas to get the proportions right. This one was almost entirely painted with "tapping" with bristle brushes.

I don't know what it is with the damned camera turning blue into teal. Grr.

Wow. Lots of pictures. If it's too much and loads really slow, let me know and I'll split it up into two posts.
