For once in my life, I have a cool english project. It's another research paper, but this one is on british literature. Yay!

So far, I have two ideas. One of them is, predictably, much more fun and also much more difficult. That one would be my passionate desire to write a paper on how Neil Gaiman utilizes and modernizes mythology and religion in his books. Plenty of source material there, the entirety of American Gods, a good part of Anansi Boys, the four Horsemen from Good Omens, even (if I can swing it with the teacher) the mythos of The Sandman Chronicles. Parts of Neverwhere if I really needed more stuff.

My other idea, which I am also very fond of, is to write something that includes Sherlock Holmes, whether it's a general study of the british detective genre (which would require extra reading that I probably don't have time for) or, say, an analysis of how the detective methods used relate to the modern day.

Vote? Or propose another idea?

ETA: Ooh, or I could write an essay comparing the humor of Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, and Douglas Adams. That can't possibly be legal, it's way too awesome. Obviously the sticking point with all of these ideas is making them into arguable, proveable points, but still... ooh, the possibilities.

EEEEEE I have pretty icons!

I don't know why people compliment me so effusively, I am perfectly ordinary-looking. But look at the icons. They are sexy and artful and interestingly cropped, every single one of them. Except maybe the one I made, but we can just ignore that one, I hang onto it for sentimental reasons.

Also, note to self: long silver necklace knotted at the base of the neck is very sexy. It is also a pain in the arse to knot and liable to choke you. Be thou warned.
