thewingedword: (turntables)
This is a mostly-random post to say that, after listening to "Icky Thump" over and over and over in a desperate attempt to understand the damned song, I actually rather like it. There's some really strange noises that I am hesitant to classify as some sort of synthesizer, and a bridge consisting entirely of guitar experimentation at varying levels of success, but overall it's pretty cool. The main guitar riff, at least, has the potential to be as classic as that of "Seven Nation Army", and equally beloved by teenaged boys who only have time to learn one cool thing on their guitars but really want to get the chicks.

Yes, I like the White Stripes? Why not? They're cool and kind of shiny. Also, home pride, y'know? Trust me, it's really fucking hard to have home pride in Eminem, so for associating the city of Detroit with something other than suckiness and rap and getting your wallet stolen, even for that alone I would love the White Stripes. But they're also quite nifty, and have that whole "brother and sister, no really, *wink wink nudge nudge*" thing going on, which is amusing and cool. And apparantly they release really fucking awesome vinyl, which I know nothing about, so I'll just have to take Wikipedia's word on the subject.

So, randomly, two thumbs up for the White Stripes and their soon-to-be-released album of undoubtedly more crazy.

Meg would smile, but she's way too badass for that. Jack is busy channelling some kind of vaudevillian highwayman with problems growing proper facial hair, rather like Johnny Depp. The facial hair, that is, not the highwayman bit, although who knows what he gets up to in the wilds of France?

This is a photo done by Annie Leibovitz, and I'm really kind of in love with it on both a "God, that is a gorgeous work of photographic art" level and a completely fun level. Knives! Fishnets! Panic! At the Disco wasn't the first band to capture my heart by being absurdly anachronistic. If you have iTunes, go to the White Stripes page and look at Meg's hat, it's amazing.

Here are two gifts for you before I go: the String Quartet cover of Seven Nation Army, here, and the video for Fell In Love With A Girl, here. You should download the former because string quartets are sexy and it's a good cover; you should watch the latter because it's a cool song, very iconic White Stripes, and also LEGOS.

I probably won't update again until after I get back from Vegas. Bye!
