I still belong to one or two communities that could be in trouble, but they've been smart enough to hide as well. My bandslash friends are mostly going into f-locked hiding, which sucks, because there are a bunch of authors I only have casually friended who I'm now cut off from completely, and half the fic in my memories is probably buried by now.
This is complete and utter shit, is all I can say. It's horrible and it scares me that it could happen so suddenly, so unexpectedly, and so completely brought on by a handful of nutcases.
I'm not making a post about the morality of incest or pedophilia or chan or what-have-you. There are things I enjoy reading, and there are things that I don't care for, but I will ALWAYS have every respect for others' rights to read and write what they wish. I'm pissed at the bastards whose name I refuse to type, since it seems to bring them swarming on one like a plague of narrow-minded locusts. I'm pissed at Six Apart for succumbing to the financial pressure the idiots put on them; yes, I know the TOS are clear, but there's no good reason to obey the demands of some shady online coalition of self-rightous censors. At the very least, there should have been some questions asked before wholesale LJ slaughter went on.
There was a very interesting article written here about what we can do to put our own pressure on LJ. I'm not expecting anyone to quit having paid accounts, since I can imagine that would be quite a sacrifice, but I am cancelling my plus account. Screw you, LJ, get your money from someone else.
I'm not going under f-lock, since I'm not a writer and my LJ is clean. But to those who are, god bless you, and I'll see you on the other side of this crazy mess.
