OMG OMG OMG I GOT A GUITAR.

I ended up getting an acoustic, which surprised me a bit at first but makes sense in retrospect. Maybe after I learn to play this I'll experiment with electric, but I'd rather learn the technique on the unenhanced instrument itself. Although I'll never get the chance to play electric because I'm never spending money again, god. Totally forgot to factor the price of a case into my cost estimates. Still, I fell absolutely in love with a beautiful Yamaha guitar, solid spruce top, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, laminate rosewood back and sides. Which won't mean much to anyone who doesn't play guitar, but basically, those are very good woods, and a solid top makes it a not-crappy guitar.

This is my baby:

The Yamaha FG730S, which again, doesn't really mean anything. It's just letters. Isn't it pretty? There's abalone inlay around the soundhole and black-and-cream stripes on the binding and it is as lovely as it is lovely-sounding. I got an electric tuner and tuned it properly, and then just played random chords until my fingers turned red and irritated. There may be blisters in my future, but I care not!

So I have a guitar, a hard case, a tuner, spare strings, and picks. I also have a phone number for a guy named Ray who will apparantly be willing to teach me to do more than play random chords. Yayness!

This probably doesn't seem like a big deal to anyone else, but it's the first instrument I've touched since before middle school, when I first let school take precedence. The fact that I'm consciously making an effort now, when I'm old enough for it to be important to me instead of just a chore, is kind of unexpected.

Yay! The Sharpest Lives is good, it's got lovely complex internal rhyme and meter. It reminds me a bit of the Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge album, more than any other song on Black Parade but This Is How I Disappear. Sigh. Why must these things have such damned long names?

Dead! just has those amazing guitar riffs. Although I'm a big fan of The End, which is very Pink Floyd-esque guitar, somehow. I suppose Dead! is more Queen at that. Just. GUITAR. Ray Toro is a guitar god and that is all.

If there was shame in getting names of things wrong, I would have to commit ritual suicide to restore my family's honor. *grins*

O Kit! Someone in capschat last night had a photo of herself with William Beckett. I saved it to show you; it's on my HD at home.

(I have some The Academy Is... on my playlist today, too.)

Nifty! I'm jealous, we got close to him, but not close enough for good pictures. Sigh.

Yay! See, I am slowly corrupting you to the pop-punk side, muahaha.

You are!

LOL, we were discussing playlists at work and no one had heard of any of the music I listen to. I had some Cake on there today too, and some other stuff.

I sent the pic to your username@livejournal.com - I hope it gets there!
