Bandom people: JESUS CHRIST. I have never been so happy that I'm not emotionally invested in Panic! fandom, because that is some vicious wank going on, and I want no part of it. Not to mention (at the risk of contributing to the wank myself) that there's always been something weirdly cabal-ish about parts of that subfandom. I don't know, it's a lot like Vegas itself; a great place to visit, if you can ignore the people advertising hookers on street corners, but not somewhere I'd want to live.

Ha! See me get all metaphorical and such. Next thing you know I'll buy the most hideous Clandestine hoodie out there and wear it unironically.

I'm honestly surprised, because I've never seen pairing competitiveness get so serious before. It's usually practically a joke! People on my flist in Panic! fandom, I'm not asking you to take sides, but is this as crazy as it seems or is it being overexaggerated in report?

I THINK LYNZ WANTS TO WEIGH IN ON THIS ISSUE

Or maybe I just have a fetish for people in bands flipping me off. I have already mentioned this, yes?

I KNOW. All I knew came from cryptic posts that friends and friends' friends made, it's been kept pretty under wraps. [livejournal.com profile] theaerosolkid apparently made a post which is now f-locked, and I think [livejournal.com profile] impertinence also posted.

Supposedly there is some GIANT SHIPPING WAR going on, mainly between Brendon/Ryan and Brendon/Spencer, with a subtext of the Brendon/Ryan kids being kind of bitter that their OTP is no longer the one-and-only pairing in the fandom. Other people seem kind of worried at the levels the tinhattery is escalating to. It's all very DRAMA and I just want to stay behind the barricade and eat popcorn, really.

Wow, SHIPPING WARS, that is so 1999. And this is why I just lurk around and read stories instead of getting involved in people's ~*~drama~*~. Everyone should write Brendon/Ryan/Spencer threesomes and STFU.

I was just thinking that something was missing from the word "drama", and you are right, it really needed the ONTD flourishes to properly express how uselessly het up people are getting. I am slightly concerned that people are starting to offer "canon" evidence that their pairing is more real, but I really don't want to go there.

...That still going on? I dropped my two cents in when I saw posts about in linked on [livejournal.com profile] metafandom, and then went back to ignoring it.

THE ANSWER IS GSF, PEOPLE. THEY ARE EVENLY NUMBERED AND SMALL ENOUGH TO FIT IN ONE KINGSIZE BED AND NO ONE IS RELATED. COME ON.

But do you have any idea how common gsf is for that part of bandom???

Practicly 1/4 of all fics there is seems like gsf, so I think there's more to this than that.

But your reasoning is in no way flawed! And I agree!

It is! I didn't know at first if I'd missed it, but [livejournal.com profile] addictedkitten just blogged on it, so I'd guess not.

It's just so WEIRD. There are the people who claim "canon" is not the same as "subtext", and there are people who use the word "canon" simply to mean any media that supports their particular ship. In their defense, I don't think many of them believe in their heart of hearts that Brendon and Ryan are actually fucking, but it's just gotten so out-of-hand.

I think part of the issue is some Brendon/Ryan shippers taking issue with the fact that their ship is no longer the OTP for the entire fandom. Brendon/Spencer has taken a sudden upswing in popularity and it turned from "who can write good fic" to a competition of "whose pairing is more REAL AND TRUE, LIKE BRENDON WOULD EVER SCREW SPENCER. OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE SMOKING THE CRACK."

I would not take objection even if they were related! But I come from Supernatural, a fandom so steeped in lovely immorality that I'm constantly puzzled at the lack of Waycest in general.

Ahaha. I've somehow remained anti-cest in general despite being in Heroes AND Supernatural fandom (in an "it's not for me, but I'm not gonna get on other people's case about it" sort of way).

But yeah, I find the whole question of "canon" that's been brought up kind of crazy. I mean. If you want to talk about canon, it is, in this case, called "real life" and it's Ryan/Keltie and Spencer/Haley.
