I belong to another board besides PPN. I've been there for about a year and made more friends than I can count. It's an awesome place- or at least it was.
It's a huge board, so it's entirely unsurprising that there was Trouble with Trolls. The admins were total slackers, so it was mostly up to us to keep things under control. It wasn't like big-happy-family PPN; there were factions and fights, bitter rivalries and random hackers. But I loved it anyways. Still do
Anyways, up until recently, the admins mostly didn't show up unless the problem crashed the whole system. About a month ago, maybe two, we got a new admin. Or- as I like to call him/her/it/we are the Borg, resistance is futile- Hitler Reborn.
Every thread that's even a little off-topic is locked immediately, including some fascinating discussions on many topics. They appeased us by adding a 'general discussion' thread- same principle as a spam thread, but it doesn't work so well for 300+ people who all want to talk about different things. Meanwhile, trolls run rampant. A very good friend of mine who I'd met over said board left recently, saying that he couldn't take it anymore, and I almost agree. So many old regulars are leaving. Part of me wants to go as well, but I love these people, and I'll never see them again if I do. It's almost breaking my heart, to see what was once a lively and thriving community become a dead, desolate wasteland. I don't know what to do, there's nothing I can do, nothing to think. It's just the most awful feeling, like watching a person wither up and die right in front of you.
