Regina Spektor post!
Regina Spektor was born in Soviet Russia. The Russian Reversal jokes are begging to be made, but I'll try to restrain myself.
Her parents moved when she was little, to New York. She loved it there, and often incorporates crazy Noo Yawk accents into her songs to show her love.
She is a singer/songwriter/pianist. She is also MADE OF AWESOME. Some people compare her to Tori Amos, which I can maybe agree with if we're talking about Tori's earliest, coolest, slightly creepy stuff.
Regina is also very, very pretty. I love her eyes, people.
She takes fashion tips from Ryan Ross. Or vice versa? I blame Ryan for the fact that I associate fingerless gloves with being loveably fashion-impaired.
She ♥ 's you, people. Don't you want to listen to her pretty, pretty music?
Would you care to watch some music videos?
"Us"- Soviet Kitsch
This is one of my favorite songs by Regina, and the music video is absolutely adorable and quirky.
"Samson"- Begin to Hope
Not my favorite song from that album, but I like it more in this form, for some reason. Her videos are always so different, and include performance segments, which I love. Literary references for the win!
All videos are from her official youtube page; she has more, and I encourage you to watch them. These are just my favorites.
And now, the music!
Us- Soviet Kitsch
We're living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
Fidelity- Begin to Hope
Suppose I never, ever met you
Suppose we never fell in love
Suppose I never, ever let you kiss me so sweet and so soft
Samson- Begin to Hope
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Better- Begin to Hope - Now, this one is my absolute favorite of her songs. It's just gorgeous and meaningful and well-produced and catchy and everything I could ever want in a song.
If I kiss you where it's sore
Will you feel better, better, better
Will you feel anything at all?
Chemo Limo- Soviet Kitsch
I couldn't afford chemo like I couldn't afford a limo
and on any given day I'd rather ride a limousine
The Flowers- Soviet Kitsch
Things I have loved I'm allowed to keep,
I'll never know if I go to sleep.
Oedipus- Mary Ann Meets the Gravediggers and Other Stories- In case you missed it last time I uploaded it! Probably my second-favorite Regina song.
And to see me made her awful sad
And to touch me made her awful sad
Enjoy!
