Managed to turn out a decent essay about Kim and how the only way for him to keep his responsibilities and his loyalties aligned was to join the Great Game and work to keep India under British control, and about how this is symbolized by his mixed heritage; really the whole thing is like reinventing the wheel, but when did I go from laughing about that sort of thing to writing it?

For anyone anxiously following my progress on the hated toothpick bridge, it held 5000 grams without even bending a bit. I had to slather my fingertips in Ultra Intense healing lotion; they were practically raw from all the times I had to peel dried superglue off. Still, the important thing is that it's done.

Halloween party tomorrow night! Got all the parts of my costume; tonight I paint my nails, tomorrow afternoon I essentially spray-paint my hair black. I even found a completely idiot-proof liquid eyeliner with an applicator like a felt-tip pen, so I should manage.

My books showed up! Sandman 4 and 5 were lovely, though I liked 4 more, mostly because I love seeing more of the Endless. His Majesty's Dragon made me literally do a little happy-dance, it's so fantastic. The dragons... they talk, but (for the most part) they're neither pedantic nor dumb beasts. They're like people, and it's the most wonderful thing.

I am so incredibly amazed by Yuletide. Can you even believe that, out of 1474 available fandoms, all but a dozen or so of them have willing authors? Someday, after I finish those bloody drabbles (which reminds me, I must e-mail the admins, or they'll think I'm just ignoring them) I'll join the whole Yuletide thing and revel in it. Just 'cause.

It's a fanfic challenge thing, where basically you spend the holiday season writing little fics for people and getting little fics back, like surprise gifts. They're secret, too, I think. I'm not sure of the details XD

I remember toothpick bridges... I did them in sixth grade, though. I think ours held a pretty decent amount of weight without bending, and then a tiny bit more was added and it crumbled. RIP toothpick bridge.

I want to see Halloween pictures, too! Since I am a loser and have no Halloweenyness in my, I ooh and ahh over other people's costumes.

Yuletide! I love Yuletide fics, mostly. Some of them suck...but the majority of them are very well-done. I even end up reading fics for fandoms I know nothing about just because it's fun.

Who are you for Halloween? I know you posted a picture of the person, but I don't know who she is.

I was Death, from Neil Gaiman's Sandman Chronicles graphic novel series. The eyeliner alone took my inexpert self half an hour, and my hair came out more dark brown than black, but it turned out pretty well.
